![]() About
Material Practice is a Seattle based architecture firm, founded by Mike Peterson in 2008. Working primarily in the Puget Sound region,
Mike's projects include homes, offices, churches, townhomes, live/work, industrial facilities, and furnishings. The core principles of
Material Practice are:
| -Thoughtful Architecture. When we build our cities, towns, and buildings, we have choices to make, and every choice has long lasting consequences. It is our responsibility to explore the opportunities, limitations, needs, etc, and find appropriate solutions. -Collaboration. Every successful project is the result of a strong team of owners, designers, and builders. We enjoy and promote the team nature of design and construction. -Economy. The term economy has two meanings here: financial, and economy of means. We hope to create financially sustainable buildings, and to do a lot with a little. -Sustainability. The future of our communities hinges on energy and resources. We seek to create long lasting places that people love for generations, and minimize initial and long term environmental impact. -Urban and Regional Planning. We understand that every one of our projects exists within a greater context, and is a part of it. We hope to contribute positively to the communities we build in, and help develop better places for living, working, and playing. Mike Peterson
